PGMs’ catalytic properties are central to the efficient production of fuels, essential industrial chemicals, speciality materials and pharmaceutical ingredients. Platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium and iridium catalysts can accelerate reactions, improve yield and selectivity, reduce unwanted by-products and, in some processes, lower electricity demand. 

Their stability in corrosive and high-temperature conditions makes them well suited to demanding industrial processes. The metal content of many industrial catalysts can also be recovered and returned for reuse through closed-loop systems.
